Forged deep under ground during Ireland's tectonic past, now exposed and towering above the surface lies Northern Ireland's tallest mountain range, the Mournes. The slopes have been rounded by glaciers, yet they are scattered with jagged peaks, a testament to the extremes of weathering experienced here. Climbing these sublime slopes takes you into the worlds of imagination. The majestic peaks inspired CS Lewis to dream into being the magical world of Narnia. "Under a particular light," he wrote, "the Mournes make me feel that at any moment a giant might raise his head over the next ridge." Spending time amidst these glorious summits, it's easy to understand why.
